"Assasin trapper"

Hey, wokring on an open, trapper assasin.

Just wondering what i should aim on for claws. Gamble? Hope for a rare pair to drop?

I'm figuring the best thing would be +skills, just gotta figure out the best way to get them.

...as long as the portal to Nihlathak's temple is open. Check Anya, see if she's got anything. If not, go through the portal and back; rinse and repeat.

Getting claws with a +3 traps prefix should be possible that way; finding elite claws with that prefix and boni to the traps you use is going to be difficult, though.

As the other person mentioned, Anya and other vendors seem to be the best choice. Don't expect the claw to be obtained easily since you're shopping for a specific item. The best would be a +2 skills and dual trap bonus(both +3). Those claws are difficult to obtain, so if you have any characters in Hell that would be your best bet(have them shop and then mule the claw).

I'd rather be part bull than a complete sheep.

Hmm... maybe it is just me. I've certainly never really bought claws from the vendors before. This is my first assasin.

Yet I can't recall ever seeing claws selling that had +skills to certain traps. I've only seen them with +assasin skills or +trap tree.

Am I missing something?

All elite claws can have boni to separate skills, a couple of exceptional claws can have them and Scissors Katar can have them, too, I believe.

Your character needs to be a certain level before he/she can get exceptional/elite items from vendors, so that might be the problem.

I too have a baby Trapper on the grow in SP.

Wands, staves and orbs can get get a skill bonus on them right from the start. So other spell casters can get a boost right away. But not a Trapper?

My young one used a wand that added to mana and had fast cast on it all the way from Act 2 where she bought it to the end of Act 3, when she finally found a quahab that had two empty sockets and tried out two Tir runes in it. It is still rather unsatisfactory, and she runs out of mana regularly as she spams traps.

Oh well One of these days the 'right stuff' will either drop or be presented by Anya.

   As far as I know...

1) Traps are not affected by faster cast rate but by IAS.

2) Traps are considered minions, so + mana / kill won't work.

I knew about the IAS issue. The quahab lists as 'very fast attack' in her hands, an improvement over that wand.

Didn't know about the + mana per kill though.

Oh well

As far as I know claws are the only class-specific items that are available for purchase and gambling - that seems pretty 'unfair' to all the other characters in my opinion .

You could go an unorthodox route and use caster gear if you are pure traps. I have a budding trapsin as well, and i am using a guide from diabloii.net as a guidleine. Its a Trapsin PvP guide and it seems to make sense. I have not gotten to a high enough level yet to see whether it was a load of BS or good advice. Check it out.

10. "My suggestion"
In response to message #0

Gamble the claws. +2 rares will eventually happen at a high enough level.

If you intend to stay in the background and suffer a little in the resist category, I suggest two claws, each at +2 Assassins skills.

For headgear, early on use Lore, Ort Sol in a two socketed Skull cap or other suitable headgear, then gamble circlets//coronets until a +3 traps shows up. FOr amulets, +3 traps or +2 Assassin skills would of course be handy, the latter being kind of hard to get/find.

Toss in, for example, a Skin of the Viper Magi, a Sigon's Shield, and you can get your traps skills into the thirty range, depending on your luck.

For a safer character, I usually try to make, for a trapper, a RHyme shield, the best + claw, and the rest in circlets and amulets. My +2 claws on my current trapper were gambled.

Your mileage may vary.

For goodness sakes, please do yourself a favor and pick a Martial Arts Skill or Shadow Skill to max. Pure "traps only" gets so tedious, even in Nightmare. Another skill like Venom or Phoenix Strike will come in handy, especially against bosses.

Trap Assassins are one of the more potent playing styles in my experience, especially against bosses. The damage output of five lightning sentries or five wakes of inferno is quite high - not to mention some death sentries thrown in for the mix. Coupled with the fact that you don't even need to aim your shot - so all you have to do is stay out of trouble - and you've got one mighty killer, at least in my opinion.
