"Is a jabless javazon viable?"
|
LAST EDITED ON 04-14-01 AT 04:43 PM (PDT) I wish to create one not unlike the mageazon, in that she does not use any life/mana steal gear, instead relying on a huge mana pool to progress. Basically the idea is to use the cheap act1 javelins and 'lightning fury' everything until I throw up Will I absolutely need to use jab? Hopefully not, so I don't have to pump dex in order to equip the more powerful javelins. I read both guides at the Amazon Basin but they don't delve very deeply into each variation on this subclass. Thanks for your help. EDIT: grammar |

I quit jabing after lv 40 and don't wear goblin toe anymore if u r a pure ranger u don't really need to jab apart from leeching back mana , but if u have high enough mana leech items trowing alone should do. however u might need to change pike/jab vs bosses and it's only 1 skill point so i think it worth to have it. Baronness Azna-V Java Ranger lv 71 europe WWF is not World Wrestling Federation ! |

I've made an interesting discovery. I'm doing a bit more checking, but I'll reveal my findings within a few days. You are going to see a LOT more javazons in the Xpack, including jabless and jab-lite versions, and not just because of the changes/improvements to throwing weapons.

Without Jab, you can't get the Power Strike, Impale, Fend, Charge Strike and Lightning Strike skills. If you're going to throw away all your javelins, not invest in Dex to weild bigger, more damaging throwing spears, then I guess the only thing stopping you is running out of money eventually. You can use Lightning Fury exclusively, but leeching becomes a problem (unless you resort to using Normal Attacks or switching weapons) For the Dex, there is little harm in investing to be able to use exceptional throwing spears. You can save it for the Act end bosses (unless you're using Lightning bolt/Fury in which case any old javelin will do). You might want to get Pierce as high as possible, Penetrate for AR, etc. I guess I might be viable. I guess you'll be using a shield with that so Defensive and offensive-wise, its okay. But what happens if you have a Lightning resistant monster? What's your plan B? If you use missile tactics, you can't use CB to take down high HP monsters. You sould try the Valk tank and then poison monsters but that would take ages. |

There isn't a real problem with what you have in mind. You want really low dex, so you can pump mana, and get your mana regen up, right? That can work, especially in sc. Your equipment might favor Lenymo over Nightsmoke, and maybe even Garb. You might have a skulled hat, if you can deal with the lack of resists. I'd also consider Wall of the Eyeless for a shield with this type of java. Here are the chief problems you are likely to have. Stragglers are gonna be a pain. 1) You will be throwing alot of spears to bring down individual monsters, and this might slow you down. 2)Teleporters may become impossible to kill. I deal with them by using clegaws and pinning them with jab. You won't have that option. If your mana pool is big enough, you can put LF on your left mouse button against a teleporter and hold it down while he's targeted. This sometimes works, and sometimes doesn't. 3) Leapers, stormcasters and mana burners are gonna be a royal pain. BTW, you can go low dex and still use GToes and a low dmg jav. My current hell diff java is adding one dex/lvl. She'll be using harpoons at around level 74. Throwing spears are just fine. The main reason to pump dex is to keep "to hit" high enough to be effective. Regards Bolshoi |
