Chris Metzen issued a sincere apology for the bungled lore covering the history the Draenei that will be released in the Burning Crusade. However, despite the blunder, the bungled history of the Draenei will still be released essentially as is. Let your fellow Lurkers know what you think! |

With the announcement that the Draenei will be the new Alliance race came concerns that Blizzard has massively butchered its own game lore. Tseric has responded by saying that these concerns will be looked at more thoroughly after E3 and that perhaps some of the storyline will be adjusted: Since the announcement of the new race and the lore behind it, we have seen a great deal of commentary and feedback from the players regarding this aspect of the Warcraft franchise. In fact, lore as a topic of discussion has been more prevalent on the forums recently, than in previous months. We take this as a good sign that so many are invested in this topic and we do not wish to disturb some of these long-held appreciations.
We will be addressing such concerns more actively, once we have E3 behind us and can get back to our regular duties of creating the immersive game that you have all come to love. We know many have a lot of unanswered questions regarding this and rest assured, we will address such concerns in the near future. Stay tuned! |

The official World of Warcraft home page has been updated with an enormous amount of new information regarding the new races to be released with the Burning Crusade and regarding Naxxramas to be released in the 1.11 patch. I'll simply reprint their front page post here: It's official - the Draenei will be joining forces with the Alliance in World of Warcraft: The Burning Crusade! We've prepared a massive update of our Burning Crusade mini-site, including a detailed history of the Draenei and a brand-new expansion gameplay trailer. You should definitely check it out if you want to learn more about the history of the new race and their connection to the insidious Eredar, the evil masterminds leading the Burning Crusade. We have also released new information about the other expansion race, the power-hungry Blood Elves. The history of the Blood Elves details how the exiled highborne arrived in Lordaeron, how the first alliance between High Elves and Humans was forged, and how the dark destiny of the Blood Elves finally became manifest in the aftermath of the Third War. Our E3 update also includes news about Naxxramas, the new raid dungeon that will be opened with the next content patch for World of Warcraft. Check out our Naxxramas E3 gameplay trailer to get a first glimpse of the cursed necropolis! And last but not least, there are new expansion screenshots on the Burning Crusade website and new wallpapers available for download in our media section. |

The 1.11 mage changes are still in flux, according to Tseric: We have been collecting feedback and watching the activity on the boards. The devs have already been working on other changes which will likely occur before the PTRs even go up. Some points I would like to share with you:
Arcane Subtlety will possibly be broken up, in terms of aggro-reduction, and have this aggro-reduction spread to different talents in the various trees. An example might be that Burning Soul will now have an accompanying aggro-reduction feature, along with the interruption reduction. Arcane Subtlety might return to something more of a static cap of aggro-reduction to affect arcane spells only. Similar considerations will be made to the frost tree, to allow an aggro-reduction talent in each tree.
Something that did not make the original release, yet received some commentary before and afterwards were methods of distinguishing a Mage's Polymorph targets. Spell drops are being added to allow Mages to Polymorph targets into pigs or turtles, in addition to sheep. This will help mages seperate "who poly'd what?" and add some flavor to Poly. These have not had a drop location confirmed yet, but will likely be found in the world, rather than trainable.
We are still subject to change in this phase of the review and will still be collecting feedback, especially when the changes hit the PTRs. Plan your builds now and we will see what happens in testing ;) |

Dungeon Testing Procedures |

Tseric sheds some light on the dungeon testing process in an informative post: Glad this post is still here. I liked it when I read it, but didn't have the time to reply, due to more pressing matters.
The testing of raid encounters is more loose than the testing of a 5-man encounter and it is approached differently.
A raid encounter is usually tested with a general mix of classes. All of them are usually accounted for in equal numbers. A raid encounter tends to have scripted events to which a larger group of players can respond to differently. It will never really go the same way twice, so having a set order of 'necessary' groups goes against that philosophy.
If a group of players decides to bring some warriors and fill out the rest of the raid with warlocks, that's acceptable game play for the devs when it comes to the encounter. If you can beat it, more power to you. Obviously, it will be something more of a challenge, but that is not something that needs to be tested to understand the flexibility of the encounter or raid composition.
Alternatively, something like the 45-minute Baron run is tested with at least two distinct groups. One group is optimized in class composition(with gear that could be reasonably attained from same level dungeons such as DM or world drops of comparable level). The other group is the "odd" group of classes that may not have all roles optimally filled out. For example, three paladins and two rogues. Both of these groups test the encounter to gather what is a reasonable disparity in data. If the first group can clear it in 30 minutes, the other group has to be able to clear it within at least the predetermined time (in this case, the group could do it quite reasonably in less than 40).
So, in designing for smaller encounters, we see the need to collect two or more sets of conflicting data, to see where possible obstructions exist.
Hope that clarifies your thinking on the matter. |

Eyonix reports that a slight change to Lightwells will be made in the 1.11 patch: We've been reviewing player feedback on the matter, Jezcapalisha. We'll continue to evaluate the ability and the particularities of its usefulness. I do know that for patch 1.11, not only will the casting time be reduced, but the actual Lightwell object itself will increase in size, making it much easier to click.
Tseric reports that the mage Blink spell and aoe damage coefficents are being looked into: Blink and +dmg cooefficients for AoEs are still being looked into and require deeper programming work than talent changes. They are still on the table for future consideration. |

Tseric has given some long awaited confirmations regarding some of the new mage talents. First up relates to Shatter: All spells on a frozen target. So, part frost, but all schools.
I take that as both an indication that Shatter will indeed now work with fire spells and an indication that Tseric desperately needs to get some sleep before E3. Next up relates to Master of Elements when used with aoe spells: Each critical has the mana refund. Capping doesn't come into it.
So, one could theoretically get more mana back than the spell cost if your aoe spell crits on enough mobs. This mage talent review is starting to look better than it did previously. |

Some interesting information came out in followup posts to the battleplan outlined by Drysac on Wednesday. For example, account-to-account transfers of characters will be made available but only within the same household. Yes we will allow account-to-account transfers. We will only allow account transfers within the same household to prevent abusive behavior. We will release the details as we get closer.
Questions came up regarding precisely what would constitute the increase of 25% to the available land mass area in Azeroth. Drysac's reply was: I see there are questions about the 25% increase in landmass. To clarify this means we have increased the overall land mass by 25% which includes the new continent of Outland as well as some additions in Azeroth (Eastern Kingdoms and Kalimdor). Much of the new content resides in Outland as that is the focus of the Burning Crusade expansion. Yet, players will be able to experience the new Blood Elf areas as well as the new Alliance race areas on Azeroth.
Questions were asked regarding whether characters could be transfered between different realm types (PvP, PvE, RP, etc.). Drysac's response: Good question. We will allow transfers from PvP to any server (PvP, PvE, RPPvE, RPPvP), and PvE only to other PvE servers. If we do allow PvE to PvP it will need to be on a realm that is set up specifically for this. As we all know it would be unfair to allow PvE players to transfer to a mature PvP server.
But if we brought up a 'new' realm for the purposes of this sort of transfer we would then be concerned about how many people would flood that PvP server from the entire PvE population.
As you can see a delicate matter that needs additional discussions on our end prior to allowing it. |
