Welcome one and all, to the newest rendition of this corner of the web you know of as the Lurker Lounge. This much-needed overhaul of the site has been a labor of love for me for the last three months, representing over 100 man-hours of design, migration, customization, skinning, and organizing in order to provide for an easily-administered web site that will take us into 2005 and beyond. To you, the end-user, what is noticed first is the new layout. What do you think? I hope you like it. The forum will be skinned in order to match this look fairly soon. For the first time since the original, July 1999 site design, we're back to a dark-text-on-light-background look. To the site administrators, running the Lurker Lounge now requires -zero- knowledge of HTML in order to add content, pictures, articles, you name it. Control of content is maintained via the Mambo content management system, an open-source program that allows for almost infinite customization and module functionality. It's been my new toy for months now, and I've had as much fun delving into its inner workings as I do in computer games like Diablo. If you're keeping count, this is the ninth total site redesign in five and a half years. As with each previous time I've overhauled the site, I swear this will be the last time. No, really, I promise. With this cutover, if you see any problems, broken links, debug errors, etc, please send me an email or a private message on the forum. |

Whew! Now THAT'S an introductory post!
Yes, I'm quite giddy that MongoJerry is taking over the World of Warcraft administration of the Lurker Lounge. He's a perfect fit. Now, in case you're wondering "hey, who's this Mongo guy," allow me to refresh your memory.
Mongo's been around a while. You can find his works all over. Do you remember Grizabella? Or perhaps his tales of Gunter?
Perhaps you don't remember those. Maybe you remember Maldar instead. But I think Mongo will ultimately be remembered most before his time running the Lurker Lounge because he's the one that brought down the Lurker Lounge with his tales of Irene the Infirm that were linked to by Slashdot. Yes, you have HIM to blame!
Even still, Mongo's the author of an Enchantress Guide still here at the Lounge. He's no stranger to this community and no stranger to the authoring of great strategy guides. I know he's too modest to plug himself, so I'm taking care of that for him. :)
Mongo's no stranger to popularity, as you can see. His journals of Neriad are extremely famous in the WoW community as they outlined in detail the trials and tribulations of playing in high-level instances. He was very popular on the closed beta PvP server as one of the top priest players out there, and will join us with a huge wealth of WoW knowledge that surpasses just about everyone.
In short, he's ideal for the job. And I hope that you will all support my (very easy) decision to name him World of Warcraft administrator.
In a way, MongoJerry is the very future of the Lurker Lounge. He's going to be running the show, not me - and I'll simply try to keep up with him by providing him everything he needs to run this site the way he wants. As you may be aware, I have been working feverishly to get the site running on an all-new content management system, and that process is well under way. However, it won't be ready for launch until December. In the meantime, MongoJerry will be running things here on the forums in anticipation of the main content section opening.
The content area of the site will hopefully move from being the afterthought of the forums to once again deserving of being your home page, as it used to be years ago when new things to read came on a nearly daily basis.
To that end, as Mongo has already intimated, it starts with YOU - the forum posters - who drive the content of the site to begin with. He is quite correct that the level of posting here has been *shockingly* low, as the Lurkers who did get in the beta were mostly mute during the long months. It was disappointing to be sure - both to me and to the site. But now that the game is being released, new Lurkers are going to be getting in to the action and it's up to you to bring about the next era of the site.
In other words, as good as MongoJerry is, it's not even close to being a one-man show. This site has always lived and died by its forum. In the "old days" when this site was known as THE place to go for any strategy or tactical info on Diablo II, a good 90% of the news was simply links to forum posts right HERE. Don't believe me? Dig through the news archives from back in 2000-2001.
Simply put, we need new blood. It will come over time mostly because people are eventually driven to high quality sites, as I'm sure Mongo will provide. But for him to provide that, your help is needed. Please don't let him down. |

First off today, Rechet has written a guide to the poor man's paladin, Angel. Not just a good choice for the not-so-wealthy, this variant is built to be a very good team player, and looks to be a lot of fun. Also, we have a melee-mancer guide authored by Elvish Legion also over at the Amazon Basin. This guide is not only informative, but really quite humorous! Reading it will make you 1336.5! |

Kynar has posted an excellent guide to the tank barbarian at the Amazon Basin. This fairly unique version of a tank uses some interesting methods and you'll definitely want to check it out. Also, the folks down at NeenerNeener.Net have done another Diablo II comic! |

Looking for a strategy-oriented bone necromancer guide? Look no more! Neod has posted a well done bone necro guide at the Amazon Basin. I really like how this guide details the strategy of the build more than required item lists. Good job, Neod! |

Looking for a way to put some of the freshness back into Diablo 2? Check out this sweet-looking mod in the process of being built. Just the ideas being put out by the Amazon Basin community and the screenshots are enough to make me reinstall D2. Kudos to Brother Laz for his creativeness and daring to do what I have never even thought about (check out those colors!), and taking two major exams at the same time! Good luck with the tests and the mod, this is definitely turning out to be one of the most unique I've seen. |

First off, Abghoul's Alhazard's Guide to Bonemancy. Everything you ever wanted to know about PvM Bonemancers and more! Next up is the Fury Java... er, Fury Bowazon Guide, by iKe2000. Hybrid Amazons are generally a bit tougher to plan out than dual-tree ones, but this guide is an enormous benefit to any who would like to harness the power of a hybrid. Last off, an interesting thread starting by Crystalion, about how highly immune monsters may be getting a discount on other types of damage too. This is a must-read for anyone who plays Diablo II! |

[wcip]Angel has started a thread in the Workshop about player count and how it affects item drops. There's a lot of good discussion, and information in there that isn't usually heard about. Also, at The Amazon Basin, Flick has inquired about auras from gear and how they interact with other auras. Lots of good questions, even better answers, check it out! |

Just when you thought things couldn't get any crazier! This time there are three news items I'd like to point out today! The first one is TheMadOnion's Cleric Guide v1.20. First posted on DiabloII.net, TheMadOnion has now put his excellent guide up in The Amazon Basin. There's a lot of good information for anyone looking to create a cleric.
Second up is a thread started by bumpkin_hunter at the Amazon Basin discussing the 2-handed axe wielding Sorceress. This build focuses mainly on the near invincibility caused by using Telekinesis, Energy Shield, and large amounts of Physical Damage Reduction (PDR) and Magical Damage Reduction (MDR). Lot of cool ideas here.
Last, but not least, a detailed discussion started by Meej at the Amazon Basin examining the mechanics of poison damage in v1.10. There's a lot of interesting and useful information here!
Also, in case you miss it in the thread, BugBoy's Poison Calculator. |

Today there are two completely unrelated news items for you. The first is a shockadin guide found at The Paladin Towers. It's a good read, and gives a good idea of what a shockadin should be. The next is a long and detailed post by JRichard at the Amazon Basin explaining the attack speed differences between wielding one claw and wielding two. A lot of very good information here! |

Today I stumbled across The Tankazon Resource. This site, recently relocated, is not only valuable for it's HUGE lists of detailed information, but also it's useful links. This is a very useful site, and not just for Tankazons. Check it out, and see. This site is incredible. Credit for the creation of it goes to ecirbaf. Check out this post for more information. |

Big Bad Bob over at the Amazon Basin has done a write up on Detritus, the singing bowbarian from the group Comatitus. It's done from the viewpoint of a scribe, interviewing Detritus the morning after a big party, in which the Bowbarian got very drunk. Very humorous and well done, definitely worth a read. |
