Happy New Year
Diablo News

2004. As the years roll on and Diablo ages, one thing has become very clear to me: I'm tired of getting "Where can I buy Hellfire?" e-mails. Honestly, people, I bought mine in 1999 off of a shelf at Software Etc. Why do you think I keep up to date on vendors of something I already own? I don't! You can use Google as well as I can.

Anyway, the point of this whole mess is I've assembled a D1 FAQ, which you'll find linked-to on the left navbar. Yup, right there under "Community" and "Information" in pretty purple letters: D1 FAQ. It's fairly short at the moment, but it covers many common issues. (Read: Things I've gotten repeat e-mails about.) So, Lurkers, if you've any suggestions for valuable additions to the FAQ or things that could be explained more clearly, you *

*(Note: Not the STSI address. Many people have made the mistake of thinking the STSI mailbox is for questions like "Where can I download a trainer?" That's just ... tacky.)

No, it wasn't just you - the Lurker Lounge has been down and out since the 10th of November. Due to the Slashdot link mentioned in the previous news item, the site's host pulled the plug. We're back online for now on a dedicated server, but the forums aren't up yet. I'll have more information on the events of the past 2 weeks soon. I'd also like to extend thanks to all of you who have expressed their support during this downtime and offered to help get us up and running as soon as possible. Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving for you States-siders!

Update: the forums are now back online. Currently, lurkerlounge.com email addresses aren't operational, so if you're attempting to contact any of us via email we're not going to see it. Use the forum private message system for now; thanks.

It's been a while since the completion of the last adventure of MongoJerry, but that's because he's been rather busy. Wondering how underpowered it is possible to go and yet complete the quests of Diablo II, he decided to try a completely "naked" Sorceress - one without items, skills, and stats. Punching. Everything. Insane? Sure, but you can read the whole adventure up to and including the "death screen" right here on the Lounge forums. Also, I'd like to thank Slashdot for linking to it and nuking this poor forum out of existence for a while. :) If you see a "Process limit exceeded" error, don't blame me!
Change is Good

Change may be good, but it can be confusing. Keeping track of the changes between the 1.10s beta version and 1.10 final is the task in this huge forum thread kicked off by MongoJerry in the Armory. A worthy read all the way through.

Apparently the Rust Storm has occurred. Reports are coming in that some legitimate socketed items were affected (read: deleted), along with old version 1.08 uniques. Also, the World Event could be triggered by being in a single game long enough for a specific number of Stones of Jordan to be sold (this could be a method for Blizzard to slow down the ever-present game-hopping by encouraging players to stick around in existing games). There is no official information on this yet. Remember that Set items need to be created in version 1.10 in order to have the 1.10-specific set bonuses. Follow the Arreat Summit for regular official information and updates.

I restarted the Lurker Lounge because patch 1.10 was imminent. I didn't realize at the time that I was restarting it 1 year, 3 months, and 13 days too early. Even still, thanks Blizzard!

Now, let's get this party started. The single thing most people are wondering about with 1.10 is the World Event and how it works, and I suspect it won't take much longer before the details are discovered. If you're desperate for information, Diabloii.Net has some, but it's not understood exactly what makes Diablo "Walk the Earth." Obviously selling Stones of Jordan, but how many? However, beyond that, we know the fun is just beginning - attempting to track down the changes that are undocumented in Blizzard's readme file could take quite a few months alone. Let's get studying!

Patch 1.10 has been released! As with other patches, it should download automatically when you connect to battle.net. Single players can download the patch from Blizzard's website. Some information about the patch, including a tidbit about the world event, is also available on the web. I expect more detailed information to become available over time, as the players have a chance to try things out. Enjoy!

Further proving that "the end is nigh," Blizzard's Arreat Summit has been garnering attention lately with bunches of updates. Another treat today was a look at the new Lobby that Diablo II players will see in 1.10 when logging on to Battle.Net, similar to how Warcraft III operates.

Just to chime in on Griselda's news from yesterday regarding Flagship Studios, I'd also like to extend my gratitude and thanks to Peter Hu for being such an active member of the Diablo II fan community. An active poster at many scene fansites, Peter was willing to listen to everyone's suggestions and give back as well with technical knowledge about the game. I know that I personally will be watching the progress of this new company with interest.
Thanks, Peter!

When Bill Roper, Erich Schaefer, Max Schaefer, and David Brevik left Blizzard in June, they formed a new game company called Flagship Studios. Today, Flagship announced that David Glenn, Peter Hu, Philip Shenk, and Tyler Thompson (all former Blizzard employees) are joining them as co-founders. Peter Hu's departure from Blizzard is especially significant to the fan community because of his willingness to communicate with players. In addition, Peter played a major role in the development of patch 1.10. I wanted to take this opportunity to thank Peter for his contributions to the fan and modding community, and wish everyone at Flagship well as they begin work on their first game.

Blizzard announced today that the 1.10 beta is officially over, and the patch is no longer available for download on their website. While this might be a sign that the official release date is near, there was no official word of its release.

Blizzard announced today that they consider the 1.10 beta to be closed. It is no longer being offered for download and their beta bug forum is deactivated. You can't get a more clear sign that the final release should be out soon, I suppose. Read the announcement at the Arreat Summit.

A little while ago Jarulf picked through the DSF Buglist and corrected a number of things. I've finally gotten around to making the necessary changes. Any errors, shoot 'em my way or put 'em on the forum. Until then: The DSF Buglist.
