Yes, Blizzard insists that this news is not an April Fools joke. Way to go, Blizzard! Now keep that diligence up for the post-1.10 era... |

My coverage of good non-English Diablo II sites such as Diablo2.de is pretty limited, for the good reason that I don't really know other languages. However, Lounge forum poster Ruvanal pointed out a very nice Affix Calculator over at Diabloii.nu that is a good one to bookmark. The calculator, created by Dectgap and Helgonet, will allow you to view all possible affixes on any base type of item. And it's in English! :) |

Two excellent but very different guides to the Amazon have been released recently. Corwin the Brute's Guide to the LoD Bowazon is 85 pages long and available for download. It contains information about skills, equipment, and a variety of different bowazon builds. CorwinBrute also provides information about various encounters and quests from the bowazon's perspective, and links to other sites where you can find more information. If you prefer magic and elemental damage, you won't want to miss Ice's updated Mageazon Strategy. This excellent guide has character creation and tactical information specific to the Mageazon. It's available at Ice's Shadow Sanctuary, which has been added to the community section. |

The forums have been having troubles today, as many of you are aware judging by my email inbox. Thanks to those who brought it to my attention. I don't believe this is a problem with the forum software; this looks more like a connectivity issue. However, we're taking a look at it and hope to get it taken care of soon. Have patience! Thanks.
Update: the errors were due to a server move and not the fault of the forum software; thanks again for your understanding. |

Tommi Gustafsson has compiled information about movement speed in Diablo II. It explains the basic running and walking speeds, and describes how these are modified by items or skills. This can be a handy reference, especially if you are trying to figure out how several factors would interact with one another! Tommi has also provided a link to his index page, which links to all the information on his site. I've added that to the community section. Thanks, Tommi! |

Call them what you will, the Lurker Lounge is moving to a new forum software and all the forums are moving as a result. Come see the new forum software and register here! The old forums will be set to "read only" mode and The Armory, Workshop, Maggot Lair, and Griswold's Shop archived for reference. I invite you all to register your accounts with the new forums and check out all the new bells and whistles contained within them. I hope you enjoy the new system as much as I, which should be faster, more stable, and give you more options to join in the community with!
Update: please keep in mind that people using Hotmail accounts have been having problems registering lately. Don't forget to check your "Spam" or "Bulk" folders and filters to make sure that your registration email is not sitting there. Since this is an automated email, some spam filter programs decide to hide the email from you. If you registered within the last few days and did not get your registration emails, I've deleted your accounts - try registering again, please. |

Still here? Okay, 1.10 isn't out yet and has no indication of being out anytime soon, but that hasn't stopped me from writing a LoungeRant about it. What do I have to say about 1.10? Perhaps you'll be surprised, perhaps not. But it's something to do while waiting, right? Take a look at Ten Things I Like About You and see if you agree with me. |

I think that we're finally starting to get a clear picture of what's been going on with the realms lately. In the past, Blizzard has stated that each new account and character needs to be played for at least two hours during the first two days to prevent expiration. However, the enforcement has been inconsistent, and many players assumed that only accounts, and not characters, needed to be "burned in." Earlier this week, Blizzard went ahead and deleted all characters that hadn't been played for the required two hours. This turned out to be a lot of characters, probably because of the large number of "mules" that players have created. The uproar was significant, and Blizzard decided to restore the deleted characters. That's why they needed to take each realm down for 24 hours. Meanwhile, there still seems to be a problem with missing characters. Blizzard claims that they're working on it, but that it's a completely separate issue. The USWest, USEast, Europe, and Asia2 realms are all back online, and players can once again create new characters (as long as they are played for two hours during the first two days). I've updated the community page with the correct URL's for the new Blizzard forums. All of their forums, including the Battle.net Status forum, have new URL's, so it's time to update your bookmarks! |

The realms have been pretty haywire over the past few days. First, there were reports of missing characters, items, and levels. Blizzard's first response was to disable new character creation while they were looking into the problem. Then, they announced that "extended realms maintenance" would be required to fix the problem. Each realm will need to be down for about 24 hours, but they won't all be down simultaneously. The USWest realm will be unavailable until approximately 1800 Friday, January 17 UTC (10:00 A.M. PST).
The Asia2 realm will be unavailable starting 2230 Thursday, January 16 UTC (0730 Friday, January 17 KST) for approximately 24 hours.
The Europe realm will be unavailable starting 0100 Friday, January 17 UTC for approximately 24 hours. There was no mention of whether we will be able to create new characters on the realms after they've come back up. For the most up-to-date information, check the Battle.net Status Forum. |

KingOfPain has completed a thrower guide, called Throwology. This is an in-depth look into skills, stat point distribution, and equipment to use with the double throw skill. He plans to expand the guide to include all classes, and you can read that portion of the guide here. KingOfPain welcomes nits and suggestions for the guide, too! |

The Arreat Summit has posted some additional updates and corrections over the past few days, and they are also asking for help. If anyone has noticed incorrect poison damage information on the site, they are encouraged to send in a screenshot showing the correct damage and the version they are running (press tab). Of course, this only applies if you are running a current version of Lord of Destruction. I also suspect that this is a good time to submit information on other site errata that you have noticed. Before sending anything in, however, it would be a good idea to read this page. |

Happy Holidays, everyone. Here we are waiting for that big fat Diablo II patch and 2003 is rolling in. Two things of note lately: - Diabloii.Net has an update on their hosted article, The Tao of Poison, with some minor corrections and additions. A good bookmark for anyone interested in using poison attacks.
- The informative article hosted here, Damage Order Calculations, has become out of date and Jarulf has sent word that it won't be updated anytime soon. I've archived it under the information section. There's a high-quality set of formulae and information regarding damage modification mechanics compiled by Tommi Gustafsson here that I highly recommend you bookmark if you haven't done so already. I've added it to the community section.

No, I'm not talking about Blizzard's new holiday pictures, but about their website, the Arreat Summit. The site was officially closed shortly after the release of patch 1.09. Although the site stayed up and general information was added to the news page, the content remained unchanged. This week, the site was updated with a few corrections. It's nothing major, but it is a change. They have also promised to update the site once patch 1.10 is released. There's still no mention of even an approximate release date for the patch, so I'm not taking it as a sign that a new patch is imminent. But, it is nice to know that the Arreat Summit will be available as a reference once the patch has been released. |

Hello? 1.10? You there? Anyhow, as the Lounge remains mostly on-hold for the next patch, Diabloii.Net has a guide up on Claw/Shield Assassins. Although suited for high-level Assassins with killer gear, it does detail which skills to think about and the bugs existing with the class in patch 1.09. It features an extensive set of tips for PvP play. |
