DSF Matters
Diablo News

Thursday, 06 January 2000
Something that's been discussed lightly a few times is the matter of what will happen to the current DSF community when Diablo II is released.  has rekindled the discussion somewhat with a post on Blizzard's forum.  Seeing the Starcraft forums the way they were when the game was first released, the original DSF may make a quieter place to discuss strategy.  But what will everyone be doing?  Follow the thread here.
Blizzard at Work

Stolen straight from Diabloii.net, some new information about what Blizzard's been up to.  First of all, a Battle.Net change as Blizzard announced that Clan channels can be created where the operator of that channel is a protected op.  Also, the Diabloii.net crew has discovered evidence of how Blizzard is always improving upon their creations (and why it seems to take so long for them to release a game, cough cough).

Well, I, uh, got the previous problem from yesterday worked out.  Happy to see the world is still operating, too. :-)  Well, time for some news.  , longtime DSF reg, has announced his "retirement" from our community.  Give him your regards.  However, he has left a legacy of sorts - he's finished up version 1.1 of his Guide to Barbarians, now hosted here at the Lounge.  It's long, juicy, and filled with strategy.  Give it a gander!

Over on the DSG Forum (recently become a haven for Ironman enthusiasts), variant creator extraordinaire has announced a real IM victory for himself and .  They managed to defeat Diablo with a warrior-mage team - and with the warrior completing almost all of Hell solo!  Plus, included with the announcement is some great strategy for Ironman play, so give it a read.

has completed his Name that Quote quiz contest.  Check out his results here.

Hope everyone has water and batteries, just in case.  :-)  Have a fantastic New Year's Eve.

With the holiday season upon us, updates will not be as forthcoming.  I'd like to wish everyone a happy New Year, and don't let the Y2K bug bite.  Also, happy 3rd birthday to Diablo!  Yes, the classic game was released just about 3 years ago in December 1996.  Hard to believe it's been that long.

The compiled results of Angelstar's Boutique: Rogue Survey Questions are in.  In her post, runs down the list of the most commonly picked equipment, and provides links to tabulated data (and then some!).  See the results for yourself.

And thanks for the screenshots, everyone.  Keep them coming!  The STSI will be updated bi-weekly to weekly.  You could soon see your shot up there.

Introducing the STSI

A new feature born out of nothing better than a fit of boredom is the Screenshot That's Somewhat Interesting (STSI).  What will make a typical STSI is a shot of something related to a hot topic on the DSF (for example, Telekinesis monster ghosts which can't be highlighted), something funny (such as this first STSI), or something showing off an interesting strategy.  Feel free to mail me any screenshots of the game you think would make a good STSI!

Nobody told me I was going to get hit with a level 9 Fever spell.  Well, as I'm fighting it off, here's some news:

has a great quiz of Ironman knowledge - how good of an Ironman player do you think you are?  His site on Diablo variants was also recently updated with listings of a whole slew of new variants.

Nystul points out that with the holidays upon us, we might be due for a slower-than-usual time on the DSF.  Have a good one, everybody.  Maybe after all the eggnog, Y2K power outages, and good times, the Diablo II Beta will commence...

The great folks at Diabloii.Net are taking advantage of a real treat - they've been invited out to Blizzard's headquarters to try out Diablo II for themselves.  They'll be reporting information about the trip all next week, so I'd recommend heading over to read up if you're interested in the latest build of the sequel we're all waiting (and waiting, and waiting) for.  I hope they remember to actually sleep, eat, and drink instead of just play the whole time.

Everybody loves equipment strategies, and a post by is a whopper.  Angelstar's Boutique: Rogue Survey Questions offers an interesting conundrum of what equipment you would prefer to take on the baddest beasties of the game - and it makes for an interesting survey about the most versatile class in the game.

In other news, Jarulf has announced that he has updated his program used to predict the chances of finding unique items in the game.  You can take a look at the new data here, and go here to see the program code.  (Thanks, !)
