The Hero Variant
Diablo News

Saturday, 02 October 1999
One of the most controversial threads on the DSF as of late has been started by
(co-writer of the V&K mod for Diablo). What makes a variant a variant? His suggestion of the use of a trainer as regular practice for the variant has touched off some debates. Check out the thread here.
Warcraft II B.Net Goes Gold
Lurker Lounge News

Blizzard announced that Warcraft II Battle.Net Edition has gone gold. This means a new influx of Battle.Net players - I hope the servers can handle it. Starcraft players got their patch (v1.06) to have compatibility with these new players, so where is our patch? I can only assume that we'll be patched soon.

DSF regular
has been banned from the Blizzard forums! Not by his doing, of course, but because his IP address matches the domain of a troublemaker. His words:
Here comes the part where I ask for your help. I would appreciate it if as many people as possible could respond to this post showing support for me and encouraging Blizzard to unban me, because I know I have done nothing to break the posting guidelines or deserve this banning in any way (unless, of course, you don't want me on the DSF, then don't reply...).
Go and help him out, and send Blizzard a message by replying to his post. We DSF'ers stick together.
UPDATE: He's baaa-aaack. Good job, ladies and gentlemen.

Some small changes to BDSC: 1) Added a link to TopazChat, a Battle.Net chat client, in the Links section. 2) Added the cursed AC bug to DSF Buglist. 3) Used a cellpadding of 3 on the news pages. Hi, Meshuggah!
Also, a one line editorial: when some jerk posts like this, why do you respond to them? Attention is all they want from you, as
so eloquently put. Keep the DSF cleaner by ignoring that trash. End soapbox. :)
New V&K Hellfire

The 09/25 version of the V&K Hellfire Mod has been released. What's new?
Nothing big, only fixed the Hork Demon bug and the Infernal bow.
Grab it at Diablomods. Thumbs up to McFrugal for the tip.
On another front, a couple of people have asked me, "where's the news?" Well, all I have to say is that if there's no news, there's no news. I won't be making up some small news tidbit to put up if there's nothing to report.
Oh, no!

Yes, Diablo fans, a major disaster is awaiting us. A huge flaw in the game design will "soon" render our favorite game useless. It's time to take action and find a way to avert this tragedy! Is it Y2K? Well, not exactly.
has the lowdown here. Read it for a good chuckle.
New (And Final) V&K Mod
Diablo News
Written by Bolty
Monday, 20 September 1999
The 09/20 version of the V&K mod has been released. But there's much more. I'll quote some:
The "final" version, unless we come upon some really cool new things we could include into the mod or unless somebody finds a major bug in this one. This does not mean there will be no more mods, it just means that this mod has probably come to an end.
Preface:
We have received really, really lots of mails concerning this mod. Some players thought the mod was too restrictive for players, others thought it was too easy because players could exploit some things, still others thought the unique items were too powerful. Others really liked the mod, but were a bit "pissed off" because there were so many changes to the mod, which meant constant equipment changes. And of course there were those (the majority, to be honest) who simply played it and liked it, no matter what we modified.
Well, we wanted to do a final version to make the game "stable", i.e. so that players could really concentrate on figuring out the best equipment without fear that we, the godlike mod creators, could maybe change the unique items around yet again. Another reason for the final version was that it is now really possible to do a guide for the mod, because there will not be any new changes to items or monsters.
I'd just like to thank Varaya and Khan for providing a great alternative to classic Diablo, one that has helped keep the game alive for me and many others.
Go and check out what's new in the mod and download it at DiabloMods. Thanks go to Rand'al and McFrugal for the pointer.
LoL Rogue Guide
Diablo News

Monday, 20 September 1999
has posted his LoL Guide for (Ultra-) Pure Rogues on the DSF. While it has a rogue slant to it, it's a good read for any LoL'er. "What's LoL," you ask? It's a variant playing style that requires a character to live solely on the drops they get in the dungeons. See the rules for the variant here.
Blizzard today announced, at approximately 4:30 p.m. PDT, that the Diablo II beta has been postponed until the end of October, in order to give the creative team the time to, "focus on getting Act II, Act III and the finale ready to ship before turning our attention to beta feedback."
Will D2 ship before Christmas? Hmm. See the full email Blizzard sent out here.

, webmaster of Lochnar's Freshman Diablo (the best site for Diablo newbies) has written a guide for playing Naked Mages. Naked Maging 101 is a good read if you're thinking about playing the ultimate legit public gaming character. I heartily recommend it, as the good times I've had in public games with my NM have kept me "in the buff" for some time now.
