Happy Tenth Year Anniversary, Diablo!
Written by Attika
Monday, 12 December 2005

Who would have thought that we'd be wishing the Dark Lord a happy tenth birthday, but there you have it. With the Diablo game sporting a 1996 copyright, 2006 marks the ten year anniversary of its release! Although Blizzard hasn't announced plans as of yet to mark the event, some of the D1 faithful have gotten together to suggest what they'd like to see happen. Check this thread at the Griswold's Shop in the Lurker Lounge http://www.lurkerlounge.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=7041 or this thread at Jim's Forum: http://p205.ezboard.com/fthedsfcommunityfrm1.showMessage?topicID=383.topic

Food for thought: what changes would YOU like to see implimented if a tenth anniversary edition of Diablo were to be released?

And hello, Diablo faithful -- this is Attika here, taking over from Lemming who is moving on to other things. A deep bow to our previous administrator for all his efforts these past three+ years at the Lurker Lounge Diablo site. Three years! We should be wishing him an anniversary! Thanks for all your past work, Lemming.

Unique Diablo Killers
Written by Attika
Monday, 12 December 2005

Now that we've given Diablo our kudos, time to give him the edge of our blades! For all those Dot@Level, Living off the Land, or just plain Ironman adventurers, check out Sabra and Attika's post on Unique items that can kill Diablo over half the time whilst in the hands of a clevel 22 warrior. The research for this took over 8 months to complete and required a small Mod be constructed (by Lemming; thanks once again) to do it in any truly reasonable amount of time. If you want to know what weapon your IM team's warrior should have when facing Diablo, checking out this weapons' test will give you some good ideas.  http://www.lurkerlounge.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=3117

Fire-Bow Elemental Damage
Written by Attika
Monday, 12 December 2005

Sabra writes in with an amazing series of tests using Fire-damage bows! She notes their ability to stop monster hit point regeneration, and also notes how you can accidentally cause the monsters to begin their regeneration anew! Plus information about how multiple players on (and off) the level affect monster hit point regeneration, tests determining that monster hit point regeneration is stopped even for monsters whose movement routine supposedly includes allowing them to regenerate hit points faster, the fact that fire-bows stop hit point regeneration in "fire-immune" monsters, and other interesting bits of information. For those of you thinking about buying that merciless bow of burning at Wirt's, take a gander at this post first.  http://p205.ezboard.com/fthedsfcommunityfrm1.showMessage?topicID=264.topic

The Secrets of Phasing, Revealed
Written by Attika
Monday, 12 December 2005

Most every Diablo guide simple calls Phasing a "random Teleport" spell -- and yours truly found out that the truth is anything but! Again, for the LoL or Dot@Level player, if you need to use Phasing, you need to read this report.  http://www.lurkerlounge.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=6597  Be careful of the buggy nature noted in some dungeon layouts when trying to use this spell!

And Speaking of Bugs: the Infamous "Playing Possum" Bug
Written by Attika
Monday, 12 December 2005

After all these years of game play Nystul discovers a previously un-remarked and certainly un-recorded bug in Diablo -- the rare case of the reappearing foe! Turns out that if a monster (or monsters) is destroyed by a trap (exploding barrels, arrow-trapped coffins, etc.) and you leave the level, when you return that monster "killed" by the trap will be revived by the game! Whoa! To get the story directly from the source, read here.  Amazing pick up on that bug, Nystul!

Happy New Year

2004. As the years roll on and Diablo ages, one thing has become very clear to me: I'm tired of getting "Where can I buy Hellfire?" e-mails. Honestly, people, I bought mine in 1999 off of a shelf at Software Etc. Why do you think I keep up to date on vendors of something I already own? I don't! You can use Google as well as I can.

Anyway, the point of this whole mess is I've assembled a D1 FAQ, which you'll find linked-to on the left navbar. Yup, right there under "Community" and "Information" in pretty purple letters: D1 FAQ. It's fairly short at the moment, but it covers many common issues. (Read: Things I've gotten repeat e-mails about.) So, Lurkers, if you've any suggestions for valuable additions to the FAQ or things that could be explained more clearly, you *

*(Note: Not the STSI address. Many people have made the mistake of thinking the STSI mailbox is for questions like "Where can I download a trainer?" That's just ... tacky.)

Buglist Updated
Written by Lemming
Tuesday, 07 October 2003
A little while ago Jarulf picked through the DSF Buglist and corrected a number of things. I've finally gotten around to making the necessary changes. Any errors, shoot 'em my way or put 'em on the forum. Until then: The DSF Buglist.
Patch Hosted
Written by Lemming
Thursday, 31 July 2003
Since Sierra appears to have made finding the Hellfire v1.01 patch extremely difficult, it's now hosted at the Lounge. This is the official Hellfire v1.01 patch. It doesn't do anything fancier than update your Hellfire from v1.00 to v1.01.

Yet more detailed testing has been going on regarding Diablo and its endless nuances. Hidden Shrine enthusiasts may be interested in this thread regarding Hidden Shrine seeding. But if bow bugs are your thing, this thread may tickle your fancy.
Hellfire: Fixed
Written by Lemming
Saturday, 19 April 2003
A new Hellfire modification, Hellfire: Fixed, has been released. And you'll only find it at the Lounge. Unlike other mods, Hellfire: Fixed is not a conversion of Hellfire into a new game. Rather, it corrects annoying bugs and features in regular Hellfire and, as such, is meant for use with your regular Hellfire characters. Hellfire: Fixed is a multiplayer modification and will not function properly in single player. Read more here.
DSF: CLOSED
Written by Lemming
Friday, 15 November 2002
Less than a year after the forum revamp, the DSF has finally received The Axe from Blizzard. The DSF had a long run, serving the Diablo community in countless ways. Regulars documented bugs, strategies, and all manner of game information for later generation Diablo players. To some, this is the end of an era. Many gamers met new friends on that forum, but the DSF's run is over now. The Lounge's D1 forum, of course, will remain open for your D1 gaming discussion.
DSF Developments

Saturday, 12 October 2002
Jarulf has found yet another game bug, this one dealing with maximum damage. If you like the small technical aspects of the game, give it a read. Also on the DSF, the reunion is a week away. Hook up with old friends and all that.
Worth a Read

Ironman is perhaps the ultimate test of one's conservational and strategical skills, and Ironman victories are always a real feat. Attika's victory is unusual in that it was done with an Ironman Elitist (SNOB). Wondering how that's possible? Read on at the Realms Beyond forum. Myself, I'm happy his run went better than my Ironman Moor quartet attempts. (No snickering.) Great job, Attika!
Constricting Ring a Bell?
Written by Lemming
Saturday, 10 August 2002
Das Regard has updated his Constricting Ring Analysis to v1.09. He's added an new section with probability tables, immediately followed by an interview with Jarulf on how to read and process the data. Great work! It even gives me an idea: Torn Flesh of Souls Analysis. And who wouldn't like that, eh?
