Bolty's Note: With a short and sweet post in the Lurker Lounge forum, Jarulf revealed that monsters actually have 4 times as much AR than previously thought, causing the character screen "chance to be hit" data display to be incorrect (the displayed values were later fixed in patch 1.04, so this knowledge is obsolete now). This makes reaching DR values good enough to have a significant impact in hell difficulty very tough for most characters without skills that boost DR. Do you have a feeling monsters in fact hit you more than they should? Well, it seems that it might be due to the monsters actually using an AR value 4 times the one listed in monstats.txt. In a post below I mentioned the actual formulas for the predicted chance to hit and be hit (when you put the mouse over your AR and DR). Someone checked and they SEEMED to correspond with the values listed in monstat.txt for monsters on various difficulty levels. However, if monsters indeed actually use an AR 4 times as high, well, that explains why they hit so often and why, even with quite high DR and stated low chance against same level monsters, they still hit you so much, especially in nightmare and hell where the 4 times increase can be huge. Anyone know if this may seem correct? And if it seems correct from game play experience? Sure seems so to me. By the way, monsters are also subject to the 5% and 95% cap on tohit as the players are. |
