Don't start a character during prime time. The lowbie areas are swamped with zerg style craziness. Wait to create a character in the early morning (sleep and then wake up early) when it's less crazy. Then you can get out of the lowbie areas and move on to less crowded zones.

Sage advice... I bought the game this afternoon and got about fifteen minutes of play time before getting booted. I still havent been able to get back on.
