Patch? - NiteFox - 11-21-2006

... Why do I get the feeling that I'll be getting a free talant respec soon?

Edit: And so Firefox's auto spellchecker rears its ugly head. Heh. Talent respect.

Patch? - Icebird - 11-21-2006

I think its still at least a week away, but they have begun background downloading of some files.

The Test Realm Patch was huge (477 megabytes or something?).

Chris

Patch? - NiteFox - 11-21-2006

Seems that way. The filename for the "patch" is "wow-partial-1.mpq".

That, and the Background downloader is being whomped pretty hard. Getting my copy of the partial off of Filefront.

I'll comment more in about... twenty minutes.

20 minutes later...

Partial patch, yup. BNupdate refuses to touch this thing, but my MPQViewer cracked that baby wide open on the first attempt.

A very vast portion of the patchfile contains a hell of a lot of interface files, the remaining sliver being DB updates. Looks like Blizz is just getting the frontend in place before giving us the content.

One thing of note: It seems that the dressing room backgrounds for draenai and blood elves are in there, plus a lot of other BE/D UI gubbins. I've got the full listfile if anyone is curious.

Draenei & new Bloodelf models are definitely in there. 2.0 PTR has Draenei ambassador in Darnassus, the Bloodelf teleport guy in Undercity (my is that bloke arrogant!), and even a new quest giver at the Bulwark.

Also the ship to Azuremyst isle docks in Auberdine. Tried it. Got dropped in the sea.

Patch? - Bolty - 11-22-2006

Did they update the model for Adon, the NPC who stands at the blocked path northeast out of Eastern Plaguelands? Obviously, he should be a Blood Elf. :)

For anyone who's ever wondered what's past all those logs/trees blocking the path, the path goes around a corner and dead-ends at a Night Elf house with nothing special in it. The house is surrounded by high cliffs. It's an obvious placeholder that's been there since release.

On the PTR 2.0 Adon has the new Bloodelf model. All the other high elves in the Eastern Plaguelands have it too. (In the Hinterlands also...). The pile of logs is gone. The way leads to big portal which has the typical shimmering instance entry graphic.

The Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands has all the demons gone. Catapults, tents, ballistas and assorted stuff surrounds it. A big ravine leads from the road through the crater cliff. There are still some servants of Razelikh left chained to their stones, but no patrolling felguards anymore.

Kharazan has now NPCs standing around the tower entrance. I guess it is the instance portal. I had no time to check this out, because the unliving peasants and inhabitants have been bumped in level. They're 69+ elite and proceeded to make short work of me...

653 megs is pretty big for a partial, right? Right?

Edit: Apparently, yes.

Patch? - Brista - 11-23-2006

The PTR seems to be both stable and complete as far as it goes. I've dabbled a little on PTR and didn't see any bugs or any complaining of them

My guess would be the middle of next week, perhaps the week after

Probably not a good week in which to grind Honour. If you're close to Exalted with AB/AV or WSG it's now or never

I've read of a lot of BG issues... things like people ending up in matches that still have the maximum number of total people (30 for AB) but lopsided, like 17 vs. 13. Not that I have too much personal experience, last time I queued to get on the test server I started at 3367 people in front of me...

WoW is back up so no pach this week 11/28/06

Patch? - nobbie - 11-28-2006

I have a couple of questions for those playing on the PTR for the upcoming WoW 2.0 patch, because I can't logon to these as BC beta participant:

1.) What is the amount of reputation you get now from your own faction when you do the first starting area quests?

If you create i.e. a new Dwarf or Gnome, and collect the 8 wolf meat for the first quest, is the first reward 250 reputation points for Ironforge/Gnomeregan Exiles? If so, then it's on par with the improved reputation rewards in BC.

2.) What are the riding costs for 'Journeyman Riding' (Riding (150)) in WoW 2.0? Is it the discounted 600 gold like in BC?

3.) Have the crafting specialist recipes like the Tribal Leatherworking recipes (i.e. Devilsaur Gauntlets, Ironfeather Shoulders) been "normalized" for general leatherworker use like in BC?

Some of the previously specialist-only recipes are available from vendors like i.e. the Devilsaur Gauntlet recipe from Nergal at Marshal's Refuge in the Un'Goro Crater.

I would really appreciate it if someone could test or look up these 3 things quickly for me.

1.) a newly created dwarf got 250 faction points with Ironforge for completing that first quest

2.) Journeyman riding costs 810 gold (honoured faction discount)

don't have a leatherworker (neither live nor PTR) to test this

Patch? - Watto44 - 11-29-2006

You also seem to retain the rank 3 discount as well. Journeyman was 720 for my mage on the PTR.:)

Patch? - nobbie - 11-29-2006

Thanks guys, that's an interesting bit of info that you get the epic mount riding discount of 300 gold only in BC (probably with respect to the flying mounts costs, which are exclusive BC content).

Now, if someone could still visit Nergal at Marshal's Refuge in the Un'Goro Crater for me, and check if the Devilsaur Gauntlet recipe he sells (limited capacity) is still Tribal Leatherworking only or if it's for all leatherworkers like in BC, that'd be great:D

EDIT:

And I have another question:

I've heard - maybe a rumor - that the new Draenei/Blood Elf quest lines and NPC's at the Harborage and Stonard in the Swamp of Sorrows have been implemented already in WoW 2.0, so that you can start farming reputation points for these two new factions. Is that true?

Patch? - Warlock - 11-29-2006

No Devilsaur at Nergle when I checked. I'll have another look tomorrow.

Don't know if that answers your question, it is all I could find. (PTR 2.0)

There is a Draenei at the Chillwind Camp offering a quest. (A Bloodelf at the Bulwark is offering the same quest albeit with a reversed pretext.) Could not finish the quest, because the quest objective was not there.

Addendum: found and done the quest 'Little Morsels' in the Swamp of Sorrows. Got 250 faction points with Silvermoon.. but it is not repeatable.

Patch? - nobbie - 11-29-2006

Ok, thanks. Then Devilsaur Gauntlets are currently still Tribal LW for the WoW 2.0 players, and Draenei and Blood Elf quests are already implemented and faction reputation for Exodar/Silvermoon can already be gained. Interesting.

I assume that the profession updates are an integral portion of BC, and that i.e. LW will get its update for WoW 2.0 players once BC goes live.

A friend tested with characters that have both discounts this morning and found that training costs 720g, and a mount costs 80g on both Live and the PTR. Sounds like a bug that no one noticed to me.
