Amazing.

Shanghai. August 23. INTERFAX-CHINA - The Chinese Government unveiled a new system Tuesday to prevent individuals from playing online games for more than three consecutive hours, which must be installed for every online game in the country.

"This timing mechanism can prevent young people from becoming addicted to online games," Kou Xiaowei, Deputy Director of the Audiovisual and Internet Publication Department of the General Administration of Press and Publication (GAPP), said during a press conference.

Stretches my credulity to believe that anyone is that out of touch with who and what gamers are. Maybe they looked at Blizzard's time-exp penalty in WoW and couldn't resist trying their hand at it.

The Chinese government is about to go up against some of the craftiest people in the world: addicts. Is this their problem, that this represents to them a new Opium War? Those horrid Westerners, importing addictive stuff to innocent Chinese.

I suspect it has more to do with Korea than the West.

Now if only they would wage war against the farmers :(

WOW is on the list. I can see it being easy to ban an account from playing more then 3 hours consecutivly on the server side (for the Chinese servers). Or just make it a regulation at the internet cafes, where it is my impression that most Chinese play. Neither fix will stop people playing on US servers in a factory.
