Cain's Portal - Myztyk - 06-19-2004

Has anyone noticed that, if you position your character correctly, between where Cain will stand when he is freed and where he will cast his portal, and your timing is perfect, you can go up his portal before he does?

Thats all,
Myztyk :D

Sometimes the portal stays open

Yes, I have noticed that sometimes you can enter the portal, but not necessarily BEFORE Cain does... As Caaroid said, the portal sometimes stays open. But I don't think it has anything to do with how many times you click on him to stop, or timing... (My younger sister keeps on clicking on him after she frees him... )

But I have noticed that the character must be between him and the portal for it to stay open. Anyone have any dissimilar experiences?

Well, not really. On a related note, you can do similiar things to Anya and her portal. IIRC one time the portal closed, and she was is in the frozen river. After I stopped talking to her though, she walked over to where the portal used to be, and disappeared.

I'm sure there are other such things around.

This last Saturday, a friend of mine succeeded, on his first try ever. He was unaware of it, never having tried it himself, until I explained it to him. He was prepared to give it a try with his new necromancer, but someone else in the group released Cain early and he had to come running across the yard to even get to the portal. He popped into the portal and right to town. Then proceeded to take screenies of the portal from both town and Tristram and emailed them to me with a gloating note.
The moral of this story is that his scurrying negates my "positioning" theory.
<tosses "positioning" theory out the window and mumbles under his breath> What a jerk.
