I'm just glad I got to see the free porn first.

I'm not! I was at work when reading the posts and was very lucky nobody was walking by when those images sprang up - no pun intended.

I only read LL from home because it is a haven for free porn and I don't want my boss to find out that I like free porn.

I can take credit for this one!

This one was a one-off, I think. Someone had developed a clever script that would post the porn spam at just the time interval allowed by the forum software. He got off 149 posts of it before I caught it, banned the user, and mass deleted all his posts.

The user account had been created weeks ago, so someone/something was studying the forum before launching the strike.

BTW, the mass post delete is the single greatest feature ever. Having to sift through 149 posts to delete them by hand would have been a nightmare.

What this software could REALLY use though is something that lets the forumgoers nail someone - like if reports come in from X number of separate user accounts within X timeframe on a user, that user is temporarily suspended from posting...but even then I can think of botscripts that could go to town on legit users and terorrize the forum by suspending them. No matter what scheme you come up with, someone will find a way around it.

Make it so only accounts that have been around for X time qualify (I suppose X posts would work as well if you are writing something a bit more generic). Set it for at least a year for this place. I know, it doesn't catch everything but this is a mature forum, most of the members that still visit have had accounts for quite some time and while it would then be harder to set the threshold of how many reports there need to be for a temp ban you at least have some checks in place.

If some script kiddy wants to get enough dummy accounts made and let them sit for a year just to frack with legit users I think that would end up being kinda entertaining. :)

But yeah it doesn't have an option like that but I just thought that would be a way to make it a little safer if it did. :)

It's all just zeroes and ones and duct tape in the end.

Bah! F it, I say! I think we could all stand to suffer a little porn now and then, just to see what young kids are into these days.:)

I sent Bolty some code ideas along these lines, but based on daily activity in relation to lifetime activity. I didn't want to go into great detail in public though.
