The Semi-Annual Update
#1
I love being retired.  I'm expanding my efforts being creative and living on the fringe.  I live a increaduky happy meager life.

Yesterday while my wife drove (the 25 minutes to our nearest city) to her doctor appointment I wrote lyrics imagining a character in one of my stories being in that place in the relationship where she said it, now it's his turn.  While we waited I started using AI tools to generate, and it was done before we saw the doctor. I published it on the drive home.

Take A Step

[intro instrumental sets the tense romantic mood]
[Verse 1]
I’m standing here, heart’s a runaway train, Beating so loud, it’s drowning the pain. Her eyes like a fire, they pull me right in, One look from her, and I’m lost in my skin. My hands are shaking, my throat’s gone dry, Every word I rehearse feels like a lie. But it’s now or never, the moment’s alive, Gotta tell her the truth or I won’t survive.

[Pre-Chorus]
My mind’s a storm, it’s screaming her name, Every thought’s a spark, every spark’s a flame. What if she turns, what if she runs? What if my heart’s not the only one?

[Chorus]
You’re so far away, it’s just a step ahead, If I fail again, I’d rather be dead. Don’t lose that swagger, she’s looking at you, Tell her you love her, that’s all you can do.

[Verse 2]
Her laugh’s like a melody, soft in the air, Twists through my soul, catches me unaware. I’m picturing nights with her hand in mine, Stars overhead, her breath like sweet wine. God, I’m a mess, tripping over my heart, But the way she moves tears my fears apart. She’s sunlight and shadow, my heaven, my hell, If I don’t speak now, I’ll never break this spell.

[Pre-Chorus]
My pulse is a drum, it’s pounding her name, Every glance she gives sets my world aflame. What if she laughs, what if she cries? What if she sees the truth in my eyes?

[Chorus]
You’re so far away, it’s just a step ahead, If I fail again, I’d rather be dead. Don’t lose that swagger, she’s looking at you, Tell her you love her, that’s all you can do.

[Bridge]
I see her lips curve, that smile’s my home, Every inch of her heart’s where I want to roam. I’m burning, I’m falling, I’m drowning in need, To whisper I love you and beg her to see. What if she’s scared? What if she stays? What if her heart beats the same kind of way? Oh, God, let her feel this fire in me, Let her know she’s my world, my eternity.

[Chorus]
You’re so far away, it’s just a step ahead, If I fail again, I’d rather be dead. Don’t lose that swagger, she’s looking at you, Tell her you love her, that’s all you can do.

[Outro]
So I take that step, my heart laid bare, Three little words hang soft in the air. Her eyes meet mine, the world holds its breath, I love you, I say, and I’m free from death.
