Cinema from Southeast Asia is increasingly attracting worldwide attention outside of festivals and specialist circles. In particular, some films from the island nation of Indonesia (such as the shocking documentary “The Act of Killing” and the brutal double action “The Raid” and “The Raid 2”) found their way into German cinemas. Something is also happening in the neighboring Philippines. The British-Filipino co-production "Metro Manila" made it to the British entry in the Oscar race for the best non-English language film.
