Do the def values for the bone visage helm make sense?

   No, and especially not since I believe any armor increasing prefix always uses the maximum possible value for the item (to insure that it is better than a non-magical one and any lesser prefix). Thus the average value doesn't matter (unlike a weapon).

   dkass is right.

=IF= an armor has any mods that increase defense,
the maximum defense will be use.
Actually, it uses max_defense+1.

eg. an armor of 10-99 def with a mod for 10% enhanced defense will ALWAYS have 110 defense.
