"Shield Survery Question"
|
Just gathering data : I'm wondering this; does anyone use RARE shields ? Is the -40% attribute on a tower shield considered 'valuable' since it drops STR requirement below 55 (mage plate) ? Is there a duped super pavise floating around West ? -Spiderdrake, who's finally getting off his ass and doing the imbue guide v2.0 (damage on bow gooood. poison on bow baaaaad.) 1 Yes. I have a rare pavise with - 149 def, fastest hit recovery, max blocking, and minus 40 reqs - I traded a Ummes for this back when ummes was valuable(maybe Oct.) I Also use a rare ancient with max blocking, 12 strength, 28 light resist and 28 fire resist - I mostly use it because I found it myself. Minus forty is great on a pavise, I guess it could be good for a sorce on a tower. But most have 75 strength anyway. |

>I'm wondering this; does anyone use >RARE shields ? >Nope, any of my charaters who use shields either use a 3PD or Wall of the Eyeless (until they get a 3PD). The only other shields I can think of being useful would be Milbrega's Orb (for treasure finding Barbs) or Sigon's Shield. Neither holds a candle to a 3PD or WotE in my book though. >Is the -40% attribute on a >tower shield considered 'valuable' since >it drops STR requirement below >55 (mage plate) ? > No, the only chars who have to worry about the "right amount of Str" IMHO are Necros and Sors and, unless you are playing a variant, you either want the +5 MAEK of WotE or the high resists of a 3PD. The only thing rare shields have for them is increased blocking, but in a trade off between a little higher blocking and much higher resists of a 3PD, I'm always going for the resists. >Is there a duped super pavise >floating around West ? > Not to my knowledge. Surveys are fun -Mith |

I use rare pavise with my s/s barb ~150 def ~25% LR ~35 life increased block (+20%) fastest hit recoveryEvery other my char that uses shield, has 3d tower/pavise or WotE. What comes to -40% reqs on shield, I've always just thought it to be waste of one possibly useful stat. Duped super pavise on west. Dunno anything about that and don't really care either. |

LAST EDITED ON 04-13-01 AT 06:07 PM (PDT) My level 80 S/S PvM DR-freak barb uses a rare pavise with 112 defense, 69% block, 58 life, -2 magic dmg, thorns, and LR (blech). I think an ICOB pavise or grim shield is definitely a great investment for shield barbs who also like having a high DR. Resists, + life, and fastest hit recovery are also great, if you can get them. I personally like pavises a little more than grims for the extra 4% blocking. I haven't done the math, but I think that extra 4% make a bigger difference in the grand scheme of things than the higher defense rating of grims. Still, if PvP is more to your tastes, grims don't affect your running speed and are definitely the way to go. Sigon's is still a good starter shield for S/S barbs though, and is pretty easy to get too. And Spiderdrake, I think the -40% is nice on towers, but a waste of a mod for most S/S barbs. Its about time someone started this thread. Menestyr USEast |

LAST EDITED ON 04-13-01 AT 06:38 PM (PDT) I scored a rare spiked shield for my lvl 61 Blaze/Blizz/Static Sorc. With the enhanced blockage mod, it does 50% block with no run-speed penalty. That plus Twitch and you've got max blocking. It also came with healthy -MD, poison, mana, and life boosts. But the bottom line is spikes are just way cooler lookin' than bones. |

Obviously Vindicators (or Smite Paladins) need a Barbed shield, perferably rare and perfably with ICB and Resists/Life. Beyond that, most s/s or hammer/sheild barbs I know use either a rare Pavise/Sigons or a rare Grim sheild (because there isn't, if any, running speed reduction with a Grim). Personally, my Hammerdin/Smiter (clvl 85, dueler) uses a Rare Barbed with +20% block, +47% light res, +42 life, Fastest HR, and some other minor resist (I think fire at < 10%). On a side note, does anyone have a list of Light/Medium/Heavy sheilds? All I've read is that Tower/Pavises are heavy, and I've never seen any information on other shield weights. |

Smiterdins will pay a lot for +20% block barbed shield with good res, -magid damage, +life and such. I managed to imbue some good one. Also my zealot uses fastest h/r, 25% FR, 27% LR, +55 life ~150 def ancient shield
