I built my mageazon to use the doomslinger, but I read below that a socketed bow with 3 perfect saphires increases the freeze duration by 9 seconds (in normal)! But why use a double bow and not the lighter composite bow with it's humble 35 dex requirement?

Still, 100% piercing, 1 skill, and speed (I would like to know exactly how much faster the doomslinger is) is quite a hefty price to pay for those extra 2.25 seconds monsters stay frozen in hell.

Please share your experience.

Thanks.

EDIT: Umm, subject should read 'Which is the bow for a mageazon?'. I need a holiday
EDIT2: Ok, one more try. Subject should read 'Which is the best bow for a mageazon?'. I hear Greece is lovely this time of the year.

With 100% peirce and +1 to skill and little requirement, doomslinger should be the best. the speed isn't that impotant as our arrow is likely to peirce every targets anyway.
For cold duration i'd go for eltich , forsties and cold damage belt. I'm nstill in nightmare so i'm not quite sure if it will last long enough in hell. However, I plan to max Ice arrow for the longer freeze time ( mageazon has plenty of spare points )

For a pure mageazon, doomslinger is indeed the penultimate weapon with piercing, +1 skill and requirements that can be fulfilled at level 10 (40 str, 50 dex).

However, IMO it is incorrect to say that speed is unimportant. Having played THREE baroness mageazons to 50+ with some slight variance in speed and skills, it is clear at hell difficulty that the extra speed involved in throwing out the IA and FA can make a difference in efficiency and safety.

Cold duration is hardly a problem for me. Using an 11 sec eye for each zon (passed on from one to the next), it is more than sufficient when coupled with the duration from ice arrow. Even my first mageazon with lv1 ice arrow could freeze sufficiently (although only barely vs certain oblivion knight bosses).

An amazon have spare points? My zons only start having spares at level 60! 20 in IA, Val and either Ice or FA, but that's just me!

and referring to the original post,

There is another variety to mageazon play, the use of double bow (or even -40% ckns) for extra damage boost. Which is why some people use non-piercing bows instead of doomie since 6-12 physical damage is a bit pathetic at times!

And in the first place, the way you can make my mageazon give up her doomie is for me to find a double/ckn with the following:
: increased attack speed
: +2 amazon skill
: greatly enhanced damage
: -40% requirements
: +cold dmg (hopefully)

IMO mageazon only need to max IA and Immo , there is no point investing more than 1 point in FA anyway, u don't really kill things with FA, also the mana increase with lv is high.

For passive skill, i don't really think investing in valk for more than 1 point is nescessary, in 8ppl game valk can last for a while anyway.

Mageazon doesn't need to invest in Critical strike, Penetrate nor Peirce, so that's where the spare points come form. All u need is some points in dodge and aviod.
