This site has been helpful so maybe i can contribute.
A listed defense rating of 50-150 (I'll use a Grim Shield because that's what I'm dealing with now) means the defense rating will be in that range. It could be 50, 86, 128, or 150 when found. +Defence prefixs work on the max base +1 , therefore a grim shield could be 160 to 300. + Defence prefixes may say +120% defence but they are only adding 20%. Your new defence is 120% of the base defence. + Damage and many other affixes work the same way.

   This isn't exactly correct.
When an armor has an attribute with enhanced defense,
the maximum defense is ALWAYS used.
Actually, max_defense + 1 is used. (:

eg. An armor with 10-99 defense has a enhanced defense of 10%.
The resulting defense will ALWAYS be 110.

Holy is up to +100% or 200%, but NOT +200%. (:

The N-1 bug exist in classic D2, but will be fixed in expansion
(and probably also fixed in classic D2 v1.07,
the patch version due with expansion release).

Correct.

The grimshield does not
>have the n-1 bug of
>most items as i have
>seen 300 for holies.

Actually, the n-1 bug has been fixed for all items in the Expansion.

+Defence

Actually, Holy is only +80-100%. You're right, though: the maximum defense would be 100-300.

+ Defence prefixes
>may say +120% defence but
>they are only adding 20%.

So a Godly Grim Shield with, say, +167% defense would only have 83-250 defense, then? Not from what I've seen.

>Your new defence is 120%
>of the base defence. +
>Damage and many other affixes

No, no, it's 100% (the base defense) PLUS the added defense from the prefix -- 267% in my example above.

This is fun! +267% of 150 base would be:400
Best i've seen is 300 (best rares of d2)
Holy is the best def prefix in d2. I haven't seen Godly since d1.
Are these discussions for the benefit of beta testers? D2 is the only game most of us have. Am i in the wrong forum? I don't think i'll get d2x until i've mastered this one and d2x has the bugs worked out. If you are forwarding an improvement in d2x please say so and tell us what your sales commission is.
