"1.45 LoD Changes to Chain-Lightning?"
|
Does anyone know how the new LoD changed Chain-Lightning's casting? In CD2 you have to wait for all the bolts to find a target before you get unspell-locked (for lack of a better term). Does the patch get rid of this annoying, if not fatal, problem for light sorces? "Of course I won the fucking sword fight, I'm the greatest sword fighter in the world." -Hiro Protagonist |

Chain-lightning is changed from Classic D2, but not in the way you wanted. In CD2, chain-lightning was not affected by fast cast items. Meaning the animation before the bolt was fired would always take the same amount of time. Then, you had to wait for all the bolts to find a target before you could move or take action again. In the x-pac, chain-lightning works with fast cast items so the animation for actually firing the bolt can be shorted, but the "spell-lock", as you termed it, is still in place. You still must wait for all the bolts to finish before you can move or take action again. I am almost positive that info is correct, but someone correct me if I am wrong. -*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*- Ok, let me try again. I asked in another thread, but maybe you'll see it here. Does that quote come from Snow Crash? I seem to remember the main character (hence protagonist?) being names Hiro Protagonist. If so, great book. I loved those mechanical (part real?) dogs. Cyrptonomicon was also really good. Have you read anything else by him? Smithy |

I dunno, I always liked the "Diamond Age." It had a most strange set of characters, a different location (than the typical future sci-fi novel) and the time span the book covers gave it a real sense of meaning. I really like it, and it's definetly just as good as any of ther other works discussed here. Any of you guys read "The Big O" or "Zodiac"? LAST EDITED ON 05-31-01 AT 09:38 PM (PDT) I've read Zodiac... not familiar with "The Big O". What's it about? On a side note, Cryptonomicon is one of my top 5 favorite books that I have read (all genres) . It's incredibly complex, yet I didn't have one problem following the plot. Smithy
Edit: I realize now why I have never read "The Big O". It's because he has never written that book. It's call "The Big U" if I remember correctly. It was out of print awhile ago, but I think they began producing it again. I've never read the whole thing, just bits and pieces. |

LAST EDITED ON 05-31-01 AT 11:59 PM (PDT) From looking at that link, I'd guess that Pay_The_Man meant "The Big U" rather than "The Big O", seeing as "The Big U" and Zodiac" are both also by Neal Stephenson. Edit: Oops, didn't notice your own edit. |
