Of course, but not on realms. Realms requires patch 1.13d, not 1.12a.
If you don't mind single-player, Just omit step 6 & 7 to disregard playing with Median XL. I highly recommend PlugY for 100-pages of personal stash and "Optional" #2-#4 for the font fix which really makes the diablo fonts easy to read in increased resolution and look beautiful, but those are both my personal preference. If you don't want to use PlugY, then just use Multires and start D2 with d2multi.exe, or whatever it's name is.
