Yeah. Loved Battlestar Galactica and its ship to ship distances of "Fifty microns and closing". But my favorite is from an old black and white Andromeda Strain like film:
Lab scene: Organism glows and grows.
Cut to long scene of Manhattan with all the lights dimming.
Cut back to lab, where white coat exclaims in a voice of wonderment, "One hundred million ergs!"

Oh, my -- that's when I found out what it feels like to snort beer :w00t:

Recalling high school physics-is not an erg the amount of work required to raise 1 gram by one centimeter? If that is what the reference in the movie was to no wonder you snorted your beer.
