Decursive makes it too easy
#1
According to a post on the German WoW Community Forums, the Blizzard designers think that the popular "Decursive" add-on script makes it too easy for healers.

Quote and link from the German forums:

Quote:Die Designer denken, dass Decursive weiter geht, als es von dem UI-Skript-System ursprünglich gedacht war. Wenn es einen leichten Weg geben würde, es zu verhindern, dann würden die Designer es machen, aber zur Zeit ist es ok Decursive zu benutzen.

Well as most don't speak german, my loosely translation:

The developers think, that decursive goes further than the intended abilities of the ui-system. If there would be an easy way to disable decursive, they would do it. But currently it is okay to use decursive.

I have to agree. Decursive is a crutch, and destroys some players' gameplay.

It's obvious that any game devloper would be against this mod, since it completely automates one facet of the game. In PvE, it destroys any need to identify debuffs and choose which to cleans off which players. In PvP, it removes any use of debuffs against the opposing faction.

I get a laugh out of the people who suddenly are unable to decurse/cure because "the new Decursive isn't out yet" on patch day. Put the spell on a quickbar and try to click it yourself.

You can do it!

I will be honest, i used to promote the idea that anyone using decursive was cheating, haha. But my thinking has changed 180 degrees. All the way up to about October last year i did everyting manually with my level 60 Priest in a raiding context. So that meant watching 40 health bars and manually clicking said health bars to either heal or decurse. But once my guild ran into Chrommagus all my "cheating" and "cheesing" comments changed pretty fast. My fingers, wrists and eyes would be sore after 20 minutes of constantly clicking dispell, abolish disease etc. Our first few fights with Chromaggus were long and he constantly spams up to 5 debuffs on the raid throughout the fight. So i installed Decursive the next day and haven't complained about it since. No longer do my eyes, wrists, and fingers hurt for a game i should enjoy. Seems all the new zones now, Zul'gurub, AQ20 and AQ40 have bosses that spam debuffs and really the only viable way of dealing with it is to have some type of decursing ui add on.

Does it make it right? I still debate it with myself. But as long as Blizzard forces classes to only cleanse abolish dispell for the whole duration of a boss fight then i am going to use Decursive. Its not very imaginative to force players to do this on Blizzards part. So until that changes Decursive is the only way for me.

Decursive is very much a crutch. And the moment they stop designing encounters around it I'll start criticising people who use it in PVE.

In a PVP context, it's pure cheese.

I love decursive in PvP, nothing makes me happier than spamming rank one shadow word: pain (22-25 mana) over the enemy team and watching a priest who could be healing frantically dispelling (225-250 mana)

And yet at the same time, decursive totally criples the main damage a Warlock does in PvP as three of their DoTs are magic based and one is curse based. This is one of the reasons why I still refuse to take my Warlock into BGs.

In the American UI forum, this has been known for some time. According to teske's translation, it looks like the German post is a direct translation of a blue post by Slouken, the blue UI poster. The post was made one or two patches ago, before the mana cost increase of dispel abilities.

Basically their stance is that AddOns that "play the game for you" are bad. This is why they disabled AutoTravel, fishing bots, and mods that controlled your pets completely. They are looking at ways to disable Decursive-like AddOns without crippling other useful AddOns.

For those that hate Decursive's impact in PvP, you should download a mod called Cursive. It lets you spam level 1 curses and debuffs over the enemy team, so that people using Decursive burn all their mana cleaning useless debuffs. Personally I think that is hilarious. :)

Wouldn't the obvious solution be an add-on that makes the receiver of the curse say in a designated channel that they have received a curse and the damage they get? I think the Raid mod does this for messages and stuff. Below certain threshold = don'T show me in the decursive window (or whatever that thing does).

The AddOn you suggest would indeed be able to counter Cursive and would enhance the Decursive-like mods out there in general. However the advantage of Decursive-like mods is that only the cleanser needs to have the mod to cleanse the whole team. It is more likely that one enemy in PvP has Decursive and uses it, than the whole team would have a coordinated cleansing AddOn system. Therefore Cursive could be funny to bust out if you see an enemy overactive cleansing.

You are unlikely to run up against many teams that don't have CTRA (unless you're talking PUGs, in which case all bets are off and debuffs probably aren't being dispelled/decursed/cured etc. anyway). And CTRA has its own built-in version of decursive, and an active development team.
You don't know what you're talking about.
