My apologies if this was posted, I've only been skimming this section of the boards lately (bad GG, bad!).
But the FBI will be doing what they call no intrusive monitoring of internet usage which they claim won't be noticable to the end user. There is a simulation of it on this page.

I'm not up on the latest Internet slang (which is really weird considering it's the subject of my thesis), but what does "GFY" mean?
"GirlFriend of the Year"?
"Go **** Yourself"?
"Great Frozen Yogurt"?

Speaking of your thesis.
It occured to me that internet slang is remarkably parallel to the CB radio slang which was popular in America in the late 70s/early 80s in many ways.
It was a slang that grew out of a new communication medium and also a medium that offered a modest annonymity.
It interesting that over the long term it had almost no effect on English despite being popular for a short period especially among kids.
It was more a fad than anything else.
