Terenas - Gearing Up

So since we are at the gearing up stage on Terenas right now, I thought it might be useful for people to post gear wish lists, which might help us decide where to go and what to do sometimes.

I've put a detailed one together for Necrali. I've picked gear that are reasonably attainable blues. By that I mean that it something we can get without needing a guild alliance. Basically, it's a list of things I'd like to get before trying out ZG or other 20 man content. It's also gear that is not intended for PvP, although I may collect pieces of that at some point also.

For Necrali, the focus is on balanced healing gear : int, mana regen, +heal, sta, spi (in roughly that order). I will be keeping multiple gear sets for specialized use, but this list is mostly focused on best all around.

I've pruned off gear that I've deemed no better than what I already have, and have included those pieces. I've also included where to get each one of them. They are roughly listed in order of preference as well.

edit: I just added Hide of the Wild as it is a reasonably attainable epic with really no substitute for the healing priest. Glad I haven't respecced away from mind flay yet because I'll be grinding most of these mats out.

Looking at this list, if I consider top items in each category, it's clear that my time is best spent in Dire Maul. All three wings contain top items for me.

As far as magnitude of upgrade, my rings are very bad (I'm still wearing Woodseed Hoop for goodness sake). My robes are green of the owl (17/17 int/spi), and my boots are junk greens (13/14 int/sta).

edit: I've been continually updating this list, it's where I track things. Necklaces for healers are in VERY short supply, with only a couple of options to beat out the Maraudon drop Gemshard Heart. One requires Honored with AV, the other requires camping the Darkmoon Faire vendor. Failing that I could drop 900g or so on an epic BoE -- Jeweled Amulet of Cainwyn.

Since we started ZG, I've been focused again towards more mana regen. I haven't listed high spirit pieces as we haven't yet been organized enough to have a good healer rotation, but that might come up as well.

I haven't really looked at specific pieces for Mogo, but boy do I want The Elements set. :) The boots are the least of my concerns though. I'm wearing better already. I haven't even looked at weapons, but Mogo isn't too bad off in the weapon/shield department.

Edit: I'll put in more details about where the stuff is found when I'm not just on lunch break. ;)

Edit2: The bracers come from strat (mostly scarlet side, but can drop in dead strat too). The headgear only drops from Gandling in scholo. The belt drops in blackrock spire (looks like some critters in lower, some in upper). My gloves only come from Emberseer in UBRS. The kilt comes from the Baron in undead strat. The shoulders come from Gyth in UBRS. And the chest is only off of Drakk in UBRS. Now I know why I want a UBRS key on Mogo so badly. ;)

I thought I would include my wish list here as well. I am a full protection warrior, and my list is tanking gear focused, though there are some PvP/DPS items on the list, I find I don't use them too much, but other up and coming warriors may find it useful, so I haven't removed them. I have the same criteria on my wish list as vor_lord, meaning these are 5 man instances and UBRS only. I'm hoping others might find this useful, but I'm also looking for gear feedback from some of our more experienced tanks here on the Lounge. I'm shooting for around 380-400 Defense, and as much armor and stamina as I can pack. I am not anticipating tanking in Onyxia's Lair or in MC, so I am not actively farming fire resist gear, though I do collect what I find, just in case. I don't have fire resist gear on my list. This list is my personal tracking list, and the things on here are considered upgrades to what I have now. I use it to help prioritize where I should be going for instances, and to know what I can look forward to in the upcoming instance. I have not included weapons as there are lots, but I think my top weapon would be the Timeworn Mace, from the Prince in DM West, as it has good DPS, mid range speed, high stamina and with armor. I am currently still using Thrash Blade. I know, I don't have links, but I have the stats instead. They are arranged by slot, and then by my own personal ranking, though the shoulders, boots, and legs are a bit in flux, as choices in one class depend on the other, as I'm finding that those 3 items I will switch the most to get the proper balance of defense, armor, and stamina.

UPDATE: I am now wielding the Hammer of the Vesper and wear the Intricately Runed Shield.

The shoulders are the only ones that are probably bordering on unobtainable. Based on your previous weeks honor gain and your playtime, I'd say that Rank 8 is obtainable for you... which is pants, chest, boots and gloves. Shoulders and head pieces come at Rank 10, which takes substantially more playtime in BG.

To put into perspective... there are ~200 people on Terenas at rank 8 or higher, but there are only 65 people rank 10 or higher. This means you need to consistently score 75th or so on the server in honor points to make rank 10. It is probably possible for you, as I think you spend more time on in peak BG hours than I do, but it's not something that is going to happen without considerable effort.

You will probably also have to supplement AV playtime with other BGs if your goals are honor/PvP rank related. AV is pretty low honor per time unless you win.

We can see more how it will be over the next few weeks. I'm tracking people's ranking points each week, and we can see what you're averaging so we can predict where you'll end up at your current pace.

Yes, the actual honor from an AV match isn't great. I'm thinking that the time it wil take to reach exalted status will be long enough to bring Rank 8 with it, but if not, I will likely suppliment AV with the AB battles that I enjoy alot, and even some WSG on WSG weekends. Especially once Fazuul caps....his attention can turn even more to BG than it is now. I still worry about questing with him for levels...but the need for quests will reduce some once capped.

I've omitted all of the ZG stuff and stuff that has a <5% drop rate. ZG gear is to drool for and great drop percentages but we are not ready for this yet.

If my build isn't obvious, I'm looking for +crit and +dmg gear. I've not selected any +dmgFire gear because I might be respec'ing to heavy frost for MC/Onyxia but I believe arcane-fire is better for world PvP and ZG.

I've come to a decision point and any help would be welcome.

I am close on mats for ET legs or lionheart helm.

For ET legs I'm short:
~20 Dream dust (easy enough to get)
5 essence of water, I can get friendly with furlbogs to transmute 2 of the earth I have to water, the other 3 should be easy enough to come by.

For Lionheart Helm I'm short:
2 arcanite bars (have the crystals, will have them transmuted by next week)
"some" sapphires (requires 10, I have somewhere between 2 and 4. Add in mining in the next week + buying on AH, and I can probably have them by next week without issue)

Lionheart helm will probably have a significant "fabrication fee" since there are only one or two people who can make it on horde side, probably ~50-100g more than ET legs will cost.

I currently have a DPS helm, "Fury Visor" Lionheart is very similar, but better in every way (+1% crit +1% hit +120 armor)

I currently don't have tanking leggings, and have been using the PvP leggings, which have exactly the same armor value.
In tanking gear I'd gain +13 STR, +8 STA, +8 defense
and I'd lose +2% crit and the +1% parry set bonus... I'll lose the set bonus anyway when I get a tanking chestpiece.

I currently have only +24 defense in tanking gear, and my DPS gear is pretty good for blues, so I've been leaning towards the ET legs. If I did so, it might take an extra week or two because I'd want to make it myself, so would work to get Armorsmithing volume II (the rare piece of which is the top half, a 5% drop from Rattlegore in scholo, the common piece is a ~40% drop from Crimson Hammersmith in strat).

Any opinions either way?

I would go with the legs. I was never happy with any tanking legs I had (I never got the mats for the ET legs) until I got flamewaker and then might from Molten Core.

You end up with Legplates of the eternal guardian which you pretty much need to put a libram with 100 HP on.
Warmaster Legguards from Rend in UBRS, Wraithplate if you can get people to run Jandice, or an offensive set of leggings like the Eldritch Reinforced Leggings from DM West, the PvP ones, or even Valor. The Enchanted Thorium legs as you said are just hard to beat for non raid tanking legs.


However, you will likely not replace Lionheart as an offensive helm. MC only has the helm of might and Crown of Destruction to offer, both of which are worse than Lionheart. BWL has Helm of Endless Rage but you don't get as much crit or to hit while you get a lot of stam and more str from it. Zul'Gurrub offers [ulr=http://www.thottbot.com/?i=51610]Gurubashi Helm[/url] which is a weaker version of the Endless Rage helm. ONy just drops wrath helm which is a nice tanking helm but not much on offense. :)

Yeah, both are 'will not replace unless we start doing MC' type items. Durambar went with ET helm, but with Golem Skull helm already, I think ET legs is a better choice for me for a 'first major crafted item'.

I think the legs make sense, since my tanking gear is lacking compared to DPS gear.

If I choose the legs, then in a few weeks (when I get enough arcanite again) I'll have another decision point between lionheart and ET helms. I think Lionheart may win out on that one.
