Advanced Scouting (Mind Vision)

First off: Long time lurker, first time poster (well since some extensive tests on Smite in D2 many lurker lounge versions ago)

Have you ever wondered why Mind Vision Rank 2 has a range of 100000 and specifically states that it will work across the length of a continent? What purpose could that possible have?

I have a technique I use extensively, especially in instances, whereby I 'chain-scout'. This is the act of casting Mind Vision over and over to dig deeper into the instances.

When you cast Mind Vision on a target (and you can do this to almost anything, Beasts, Critters, Players, Elementals (I like to target Critters)) you have the ability to look through its eyes *and* select a new target from within its sight.

Chain-Scouting consists of picking a target some distance away, casting Mind Vision, from that targets eyes picking a new target and without cancelling Mind Vision casting the spell from your action bar again.

Using this technique you can twist down corridors, go up stair cases and pretty much view any portion of the dungeon you desire as long as there are mobs filling the path down which you wish to traverse.

Never be lost again, never be ambushed again, put this invaluable Priest skill through the paces. :)

Thoughts? Has anyone ever tried this technique before? Any other uses for Mind Vision?

It is indeed a cool trick. There aren't many strategic uses for seeing 50,000 yards away but seeing the next 3 pulls can be nice.

Yep, that's a neat trick. I've been using it lately to help guildies with the documents in LBRS for the Warlord's Command quest. I spend a lot of time parked in BRS, so I'll usually pop into the instance while the group is en route and see if it's worth killing our way to Omokk and Voone for the document spawn. I can't see the documents as an active item (one that I can pick up) since I've done the quest, but I can see if there are any documents to be checked at Omokk, for example. We can save a bit of time that way, which is nice.

I talked to one fellow in guild who has gone MV travelling across the continent... from UC to Stormwind. :)

Heh, neat trick. I've never targetted Critters before, I'll have to do that.

I also use it just for curiosity's sake when we're pulling in MC or places like that. It ignores line of sight, so I can just select the puller for the raid and cast MV to see how the pull is going. And if I want to joke around with the other priests that are doing that, we'll sometimes cast dispell magic on each other, which gets rid of the mind vision. :)

I play on a PvE server, so this might be different from playing on a PvP server, but one thing that I've noticed is that you can flag for PvP from casting MV on flagged NPCs. I haven't done it lately, I don't know if it's changed since I discovered that.

And now that I think about it, I wonder if I could cast MV on a flagged player from the opposite faction and follow them across an instance boundary... or on a griffin ride, or something like that. Hhmm. Might be an interesting tool for setting up ambushes on a PvP server.

Oh, and what happens if you cast it on a rogue that stealths or vanishes? I might have to head to TM and try that out too.

I love using Mind Vision to scout ahead for things. Useful for everything from tracking patrols to determining where certain things are ahead of time or if certain spawns are up. Also, MVing on a patroller is a good way to extend the range of your MV in places with a lesser mob population. It also served very well to scout while hiding and waiting for an opportunity to ambush the Barov at the Bulwark.

I also love being the back seat puller. I have even had situations where I have known the pulling strategies in an instance as well as the actual puller and we could work together on pulls. It's always good to have a second set of eyes calling out what is coming on a pull before the rest of the group can see it (when pulling between rooms). This allows everyone to have an idea of what they are facing ahead of time and it is easier for the priest to call it out than it is for the puller to worry about calling it while pulling.

And you can always just have fun with it too. This is another one of those utility spells that you can do just fine without ever using, but it has many applications if you think about it.

Tal and mjdoom combined for this one time in the Scholomance first deed room. It was really helpful to me, especially since I had never been in the instance before.

That room was such a blast to pull though I was worried that I was being too catious and you guys were going to get pissed. :D

Mind Vision's a great skill. I used it just the other day in the Alterac Valley battlegrounds. There's a goblin NPC who's been captured by the (3rd party) trolls in a cave complex. If you rescue him and escort him out, he'll let you build shredders to use in the war. The trouble was that my partymates weren't sure where exactly the goblin was in the cave complex, so I Mind Visioned around until I found him. (It turns out that the cave complex is a circle, so it didn't matter what direction we went, but there was one direction that was faster to get to him than the other, so the MV scouting proved useful).
